[ARCHIVED] Agenda preview for Sept. 8 Council meeting

Here is a summary of the key issues the Village Council will address at their meeting on Thursday, September 8th, beginning at 7 p.m.: 

  • Consider on 1st reading, approving a final property tax rate of 7.05 mils, which equals $7.05 for every $1,000 of taxable property value, for 2023, and consider for approval a proposed final budget of $37,344,962 for 2023.
  • Consider on 1st reading, approval of a proposal to change the calculation of police officer retirement benefit rates, raising the cap on retirement benefits from 75 to 80 percent of salary, and increasing the officers' contribution multiplier from 2.75 to 3 percent.
  • Consider on 2nd reading, adopting a proposed 3-tier plan for stormwater management fee assessments on single-family residential preoperties.
  • Consider on 2nd reading, approving a change to the Village Code that limits private gatherings without a permit at Village parks, raising that limit to 25 people.
  • Consider on 2nd reading, revising the Village Code of Ordinances specifying rules for employee compensation during a declared state of emergency.
  • Consider approval of a final payment of $23,808 to J.W. Cheatham for milling, resurfacing and striping of various roadways in the Village.
  • Consider authorizing an application for a State Aid to Libraries Grant, and authorizing execution of a Grant Agreement.
  • Consider approval of a blanket purchase order from Al Packer Inc. for $30,000 for Village vehicle parts and repairs.
  • Consider approval of a blanket purchase order from Nextran Truck Center, Inc. for $35,000 for Village vehicle parts and repairs.
  • Consider approving the purchase of a 2024 Freightliner M2 4-Door Cab with PL Custom Medium Duty Ambulance Module from South Florida Emergency Vehicles at a cost not to exceed $619,728.7, and declaring an existing 2016 Freightliner/AEV Ambulance as surplus property, authorizing its disposal.
  • Hold a discussion about Residential Code Revision Committee topics for consideration.
  • Hold a discussion about recruitment of a Village Manager.
  • The Council will then hold an attorney-client session with the Village Attorney in the Village conference room (closed to public in accordance with Florida law). After the session, the Regular Council meeting will open again for final items.

Residents are encouraged to attend meetings in person and to offer commentary about Village business. Council meetings are streamed live, but interactive Zoom technology is no longer used. If you want to submit a comment or question to be read by the Mayor at the August 25th Council meeting, please visit the Council comments page (the commenting function will be turned off at 4 p.m. on the meeting date to allow staff time to prepare submission for Council).
