UPDATE RE: Boat and RV ordinance enforcement

On Thursday, September 27, the Village Council formalized by resolution their previous decision to suspend enforcement of Village Code 18.35 (8), which regulates the screening of boats and RVs. To determine what the final screening requirements will be, further work will be done by survey, and then by a citizen advisory group yet to be established, as well as by additional Council discussion and action. Therefore, Code Compliance officers are not enforcing the screening requirements at this time.

However, the Council left intact the other parts of the ordinance which regulate front yard parking, require current state licensing and prohibit using the equipment as living or sleeping quarters, etc. For example, the Council specifically addressed and stated there will be continued enforcement of section 18.35 (3), which prohibits the parking of boats and RVs for more than 72 hours in a front yard or driveway.

When a local newspaper originally ran a story last week about the suspension of enforcement, they ran a photo of a boat on a trailer parked in a driveway in front of a house. That photo may have created the impression for some people that the Village would no longer be enforcing any boat/RV requirements. However, as mentioned, only the screening enforcement has been suspended, and front yard parking for more than 72 hours continues to be prohibited.
