Signs throughout Village let people know about zoning changes

Yard sign explaining rezoning is under consideration

As part of the long-term goal of implementing the North Palm Beach Citizen’s Master Plan, the Community Development Department is posting yard signs throughout the Village to let residents know about rezoning changes proposed for most commercial properties in the Village.

The Citizen’s Master Plan was created through an extensive series of public meetings, workshops and planning sessions in 2015 and 2016. That Master Plan calls for changes in the Village Code of Ordinances that will encourage redevelopment and revitalization of business properties on U.S. Highway 1 and along Northlake Boulevard.

Now the Village will hold a series of public new Open House meetings to further engage residents about the code changes and other major issues and opportunities facing the Village in the near future. Topics include:

  1. Changes to the Village development code, which regulates the design and use of commercial properties. See proposed changes here.
  2. A proposal to re-purpose lanes on U.S. Highway 1 for increased landscaping, pedestrian and bicycle usage. This involves reducing part of U.S. Highway 1 to two lanes in each direction, instead of three, as it is now. Staff will be available to explain the benefits of the change and to answer questions from residents.
  3. A proposal by a private firm to develop vacant property at 200 Yacht Club Drive (across from the Country Club).
  4. The reconstruction of the U.S. Highway 1 and Prosperity Farms Road bridges over the Earman River.

The meetings will be held in the Village Country Club from 4 to 7 p.m. on these dates:

  • Wednesday, September 9th
  • Monday, October 26th

Arrangements will be made to ensure safe social distancing and other measures to combat the spread of COVID-19. For more information about the Open Houses, call the Community Development Department at (561) 841-3365.
