The Detective Squad conducts follow-up investigation on all major crimes reported in the Village. The personnel within the squad receive training above and beyond that of a normal patrol officer. 

This training increases their proficiency in developing leads, interrogating suspects, conducting interviews of witnesses and victims, recovering stolen property, and bringing cases to completion.

Squad personnel work closely with Crime Scene Unit technicians, to develop and utilize evidence obtained from crime scenes to identify suspects and to construct a case.
